Everyone’s invited to join in on the
fun at this year’s Youth World
Show!
A variety of exciting social and competitive activities for youth are
unfolding during the first week of the 2008 World Championship Paint
Horse Show in Fort Worth.

Friday, June 20, kicked off the show with the American Junior Paint
Horse Association’s (AjPHA) Year-End Awards Banquet, where outstanding
youth were recognized for their achievements during the 2007 show
season. Following the banquet was the AjPHA Party and Dance, giving
young exhibitors a chance to socialize with Youth from around the
world. All proceeds benefited the AjPHA Leadership Conference.
Youth began competing Saturday, June 21, for the Youth Team
Tournament. Teams participated both on and off horses in a series of
four events: hippology, performance classes, knowledge relay and
parade of teams, which wrapped up yesterday with final results and
award presentations.
The second annual Goat Roping Jackpot will begin at 7 p.m. on Tueday,
June 24, to benefit APHA Youth Programs. The event will be a
progressive three rounds, meaning each non-mounted team must rope its
goat in the first round to continue on to the next.
Interested in trying your luck? Anyone can compete and entry fees are
$10 per team. Practice sessions are $1 per person. Visit the Youth
Booth in the Color of the World Gift show to enter or learn more.
Don’t miss the Paint Horse version of the summer Olympics. Held every
two years, the Paint World Games are scheduled to begin on Thursday,
June 26. International youth members will compete in a versatility-style class with one horse and four riders. Teams will compete in
Western horse- manship, showmanship, reining and trail. Horses will be
assigned at the show and teams will have a limited supervised amount
of time to work with their mount prior to competition. Warm up begins
at 8 a.m. and the contest is scheduled to follow at 10 a.m.
The AjPHA Judging Contest, sponsored by Hart Trailers, will take place
on Friday, June 27, at 8:30 a.m. Witness one of the most successful
youth events as competitors judge halter and performance classes.
Around 100 teams are expected to compete.
Calling all kids! APHA has dedicated Saturday, June 28, for Kid’s Day.
Come join a free day full of fun activities for the whole family.
Entertainment includes Radio Disney, Paint Horse rides, a stick-horse-
making station, special demonstrations and even appearances by Paint
Horse Pete!
Start your fun-filled day by entering your youngster in the Gist Stick
Horse Contest, sponsored by Gist Silversmiths on Monday, June 23, in
the John Justin Arena. Youth under the age of 7 are encouraged to
dress up for this event, where they will be challenged to correctly
handle a Paint stick horse at the walk, jog/trot, and lope/canter. In
addition, a belt buckle coloring contest, giving children a chance to
show off their coloring skills, continues through June 26.
As always, AjPHA continues to cater to its Youth by providing great
opportunities all week long. Everyone is welcome, so make sure you are
a part of these wonderful events for the whole family at this year’s
World Championship Paint Show. |
